Theoretical and Conceptual Frameworks in Research

Overview

Supervisors and examiners of any dissertation look for evidence of academic standards and procedure; on the other hand, doctoral candidates seek to offer an explanation of why the study is pertinent and how they expect to fill the gap in the literature. However, of the most important aspects in the research process, theoretical and conceptual frameworks are often misunderstood by doctoral candidates; this could be as important as a body skeleton or a house blue print. Examiners always look for the following:
Is there a theory underlying research question?
Is there a clear and explicit connection between the theory, earlier findings and purpose of the
present study?
Is there a relation between research questions, design approach, data analysis and literature
review?
This webinar will help researchers select and integrate theoretical and conceptual frameworks in their dissertationsThe following points will be tackled:
  • What is a theoretical framework? What is a conceptual framework? What is the difference between them?
  • Why should I have a conceptual framework in my thesis.
  • Where do theoretical and conceptual frameworks come from.
  • What do theoretical and conceptual framework look like.
  • Where would I place my conceptual framework in my thesis?
